An Omaha man has been booked for suspicion of first-degree felony assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony in the shooting of his brother Saturday afternoon.

Police say 42-year-old Jerry Hanks and 58-year-old Charlie Hanks were fighting on the front porch of a home near North 49th and Fort streets just after 2:30 p.m. Jerry pulled a gun and allegedly shot Charlie in the chest.

Jerry called 911 and said he had just shot his brother. He waited at the house until help arrived and was taken into custody.

Charlie is in serious condition at Creighton University Medical Center.

A coward he is not, a man he is. Why? Only a coward will run but a man will do just as he did.Take full responsiblity for his actions.I am so sorry that this has happened to these two brothers. My prayers will be with them & never will I cast judgement on either on of them.

All of these fictious comments only proves what I've said, NOONE KNOWS. Comments Opinions = Nothing Go look in your mirrors & talk to GOD about what you've done in your life time & ask for forgiveness & while you're there ask him to forgive you for judging Jerry Hanks.

I bet that all of these negative comments came from people of whom just dont understand the things that can happen in. Life. Like every one, or "every black man" has to be in the wrond or be some type of thug. Accidents happen, and people do have there own lives they live through everyday and not everyone knows what could be going on within these people lives

I worked with Jerry and I know that he is a kindhearted man. He had to be fighting and felt that his life was in danger to shot his brother.

These two brothers are my uncles,& I just want to say that they are very respectful & were raised that way with both parents in the home. Unfortunately God called their father 16yrs ago & their mother 3wks ago, things we have no control of. Noone knows why this happened or why it escalated as far as it did.Noone knows the stress or the pressure these two may have been under.Jerry was man enough to call the police on himself instead of running taking full responsibility for what has happened. Noone knows so don't judge.I love both my uncles & I am terribly sad that this has happened.

Come on now. We can't just come to assume we know what's going on here. The shooter is probably a victim as well, right? He grew up in a bad neighborhood, he's a victim of society, stressed because he has to work/ or not for a living. Ya whatever. This guy is a piece of crap on societies back side. Just another "thug" and less then a man. Shooting your own flesh and blood? LOSER!! To shoot anyone for other then self defense is just apalling. So what happened? Did you get upset? Did your brother hurt your feelings? Did your brother disrespect you? You just had to teach your brother what a man you are right? GET A LIFE!!

Don't be so judgemental,we all have done things that others wouldn't of done.Dysfunctional family??I think we all have one.What do we know about these brothers? NOTHING.What do we know about how they were raised? Again NOTHING! Why be so opionionated? We all have done things in life that we regret and are shameful of. It may not be to this extent but who are we to judge?

I couldn't imagine shooting my brother. We're really good at "S.T." (silent treatment) when we're mad. That, and calling Mom and complaining about the other. But GUNFIRE? I can't imagine hating your own brother that much.

Shooting one of my brothers wouldn't be an option. I guess my parents raised us to be respectful and to handle conflict in a positive way. Key word "parents" Two married adults committed to their family, for over 50 years.
