Saturday's heartbreaking Husker loss in Lubbock had many fans talking about what went wrong and what went right.
While he prepared to watch the Huskers take on Texas Tech at Pauli's bar, Tom Stuckey of Omaha reached deep into his closet for a shirt he hasn't worn in years.
"Because I've been kind of disappointed with what's happened in Nebraska with the Callahan era and all that and so I had a feeling we had a chance to win this game, so I brought it out."
The Huskers had a good chance and some missed opportunities. "We should have won the game. The guys played great. I'm disappointed that we didn't go for two points," said Stuckey, regarding the fourth quarter touchdown by Todd Peterson. "We had 'em down. We should have put them away."
Fan Tom White thought he saw real progress over last week. "I saw some progess. They're getting there. People in Nebraska have gone through a long, dark night and daylight's coming."
Daylight is coming, White says, because Bo Pelini is at the helm. "They're playing with passion again. I haven't seen that in a while. Folks say he's not Osborne, but I think he's Devaney."
"I'm not a fair weather fan and I think most of Omaha or Nebraska would say the same."
A sentiment shared by fans in Lubbock who say they're true blue for Big Red. Jeff and Pat Wilcox of Omaha expected Nebraska to be on the losing end of another blowout, but they made the trek south anyway.
"Through the rough times and through the good times," said Jeff. "You've still got to go." His permanent allegience is marked by a Husker tattoo on his arm.
Back at Pauli's, fan Pam Prchal believes the Huskers are on the right track. "I mean, they brought the spirit back into the games."
Stuckey agrees. "Whether we won or lost, we'll jump from this. We'll get better and better."
