Investor Warren Buffett beat out Microsoft founder Bill Gates as the wealthiest American. Forbes magazine reported Friday the “Oracle of Omaha” gained $8 billion while Gates lost $1.5 billion.

Buffett's worth is put at $58 billion, pushing him ahead of Gates, whose fortune fell to $55.5 billion.

Meanwhile, the Omaha Press Club says the missing 23-year-old caricature of Buffett valued at $100,000 has turned up at Joslyn Castle.

The president of the Joslyn Castle says the Press Club brought the drawing to the Castle while the Press Club was renovated. The Buffett caricature was left behind when the drawings were transferred back to the Press Club.

A Press Club spokesperson says they don't know how they missed it during their first search of the building.

The caricatures, or exaggerated drawings, are actually hung on the walls of the Omaha Press Club, though the ceremony which honors those depicted in the drawings is refered to as the "Face on the Ballroom Floor." More than 100 have been honored.

I agree with you. Buffet is the richest man in America and Omaha doesn't see anything from him. The other posting says his daughter and late wife donate under the radar. Again nothing from buffet himself and under the radar tells me it is nothing of significance. But when he gives tons of cash to the Gates foundation (who btw doesn't need it) it surely isn't under the radar. He doesn't hesitate to do local commercials (above radar) to get people to spend money in his furniture store either. Buffet needs to break down and part with some of that cash to help the city he calls home! I think the guys a joke.

You need to live in the same house & drive the same car for 1000 years. You need to learn to live on just the basics, don't splurge on anything and maybe you, along with the rest of us, will get to maybe, but doubtfull 1% of what he is worth. Afterall that is only $550,000,000.

Buffet has spoken out against big salaries and golden parachutes of Wall Street dudes and has done so for years. Yea to him.

how can i become rich like him???

Posted by: Charlie on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:50 AM
Who really cares how much Buffet and Gates are worth. I say wipe out their retirement and savings, like the market has done to so many and see how they like it. Once you start talking a BILLION who really cares.

I wish I could borrow his checkbook for one week. I would even take a day!! PLEASE!!!!

Are you kidding? Do you know how much money is poured into the Omaha Public Schools by Buffet;s daughter and late wife. The difference with Buffet's is they do it under the radar, not in the public circus. Horray for them to be humble.

Why doesn't Buffet donate to charities in Nebraska. He gives everything to the Gates foundation, but does nothing here. Says alot about him.

PAY CHECKS SMALLER. Picture in creases in value. wonderful world we live in uh???

It would irk Dems because it's VOLUNTARY redistribution. They want to control how much the "rich" give to the poor and middle class - compare charitable giving when taxes are high to what it is when taxes are low, I bet voluntary redistribution of wealth through charitable donation is higher. We don't need the Dems to control who gives what and where it goes. I prefer to choose what programs I support rather than have someone tell me who gets my money! But Buffet picture is the point, it costs more because it's Warren Buffet. Just like Air Jordans cost more because they say Jordan. Buffet has become a brand. Maybe he sat for the caricature and signed it. He doesn't sign autographs anymore - that adds to the demand and price. What about baseball cards and sports memorabillia? Everything has a price - but when lots of people want it and the supply is low demand goes up and along with it price (not necessarily value so it could be crap but if someone wants it, it still costs more).

a picture used to be worth a thousand words, now they're up to 100,000 bucks? guess that sounds right in today's inflated economy. (I'll bet if it was on "The Antique Roadshow", it wouldn't be worth more than $500!)

You are right, it is a theft, and yes, that is a crime. But lets get real, it is a caricature. Like someone said below, it's not a Picasso, nor is it the Mona Lisa. It's Warren Buffett. And the sad thing is, if this is such a high price item, the why did it take them 6 months to notice it's missing. This is a joke! And yes, Safe Haven is news and it needs immediate attention. So "steve" (without a capital "S" because I'm lacking brain cells) before you go around and accuse people of not being intelligent, perhaps you should understand what I'm talking about. I'm talking that this is news and needs to be heard because it is out of control.

Posted by: BJ on Oct 9, 2008 at 05:32 PM
Its supposedly worth all that money because its probably insured with one of Buffetts insurance companies.

Posted by: To Kent on Oct 9, 2008 at 03:50 PM
How would that irk Democrats? Just curious.

Posted by: Renter on Oct 9, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Kent...No this should NOT go towards homes in forclosure. I'm sorry you got greedy and thought you could buy a house without a fixed mortgage thinking you could sell it in a year at double what you paid. You got suckered not me. Don't try crying on my shoulder. Cause it's only going to be cold.

Posted by: steve on Oct 9, 2008 at 03:34 PM
this is stupid and a drawing like this is no way worth $100,000 and it is not a big loss since this happens to be the richest man in the world's picture. Rachel, you are right in the fact that this is not news, but you obviously are not a very intelligent person, since you claim on your notes that the Safe Haven is news. The Safe Haven is the dumbest thing I have ever seen and has turned Omaha into a national joke. This news story is not worthy of the news and we really need to look for stories that are worth talking about and not stupid stories like this.

Posted by: B on Oct 9, 2008 at 03:07 PM
Pretty sure someone can just draw up a new one. Who would even pay 100,000 dollars for a picture!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 9, 2008 at 02:56 PM
Rachel, go ahead...keep reading about war, economy, drugs, gangs, shootings, and...wait, you forgot about robbery...oh, that's right, this is a theft story...you must be addicted to those heavier crime stories.

Posted by: to Rachel on Oct 9, 2008 at 02:45 PM
I absolutely agree with you!!!

Posted by: Rachel on Oct 9, 2008 at 01:25 PM
Who cares!!! This isn't news!!! News is the war, economy, drugs, gangs, shootings, Safe Haven..this is nothing!!!

Posted by: Rather not say. on Oct 9, 2008 at 11:22 AM
$100,000. Wow! How did they come up with this value? Insured?

Posted by: Kent on Oct 9, 2008 at 10:53 AM
$100,000?! I could get my house out of foreclosure and then some! Why doesn't the Press Club auction off the caricatures and give the money to struggling families? Such a voluntary redistribution of wealth might boost the economy, stave off tax increases, and really irk some Democrats.

Posted by: jj on Oct 9, 2008 at 10:47 AM
that is bad,but why is this picture worth 100 thousand? who paited this?rafael?or picasso?

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 9, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Wonder if it's posted for sale on Craig's List or ebay yet?

Posted by: AB on Oct 9, 2008 at 10:35 AM
It's a stupid picture, sure thieves should not have taken it but come on, that much for a piece of paper drawn by someone who is no better then other artists? Way to put a price on something trivial.
