A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for northern Mills County in Iowa and northeastern Cass and eastern Sarpy counties in Nebraska until 3:45 p.m. Sunday. A tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, including Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln.
A standoff ended peacefully after five hours Tuesday night in Syracuse, Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol says 27-year-old Bruce Leazer walked into a pharmacy around 3:30 p.m. armed with a gun, demanding drugs. Employees ran out and called 911. When SWAT team members arrived they closed off the main street.
Leazer also called 911. Operators were in communication with him until 5:30 p.m. They could hear him moving, but he was not talking.
Officers sent a robot into the store around 7:40 p.m. and determined that Leazer was lying on the floor unresponsive. Members of the SWAT team were able to help Leazer walk out of the pharmacy just after 8 p.m.
He remains hospitalized in stable condition.
