Cabela's Incorporated, an outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, today announced in a news release it is reducing its workforce 10% at its corporate headquarters in Sidney, Nebraska.

After completing a review of its organizational structure, the Company determined to reduce staffing levels in selected areas. The Company expects approximately two-thirds of the reduction to come from not filling open positions and one-third of the reduction to come from job eliminations. Cabela's is offering severance payments and outplacement assistance to affected employees.

"This workforce reduction is an effort to reduce costs and improve efficiencies," said Dennis Highby, Cabela's President and Chief Executive Officer. "While this was a difficult and challenging decision, I believe it was necessary given the macroeconomic environment we are facing. We don't expect these changes to impact customer service."

this is a public held corporation and why is it almost like a policy of this company lately not to make public bonuses paid and severance paid to employees

I want to know why there are so many vice presidents and high-management positions at Cabela's with enourmous salaries who aren't taking pay-cuts or lay-off like the rest of that company is. This is the beginning of one huge mess that I don't think this company will recover from.

This is the second business in Nebraska to lay people off. Who is going to be the next company. Watch out everyone this is just the beginning.
