Reflecting on a bruising defeat Saturday night at home in Memorial Stadium to the Missouri Tigers, Husker head football coach Bo Pelini Monday said his team needs to be more disciplined.
Through five games the Cornhuskers are on pace to set a school record for penalties. They were flagged 14 times for 101 yards against Missouri. The number of penalties tied the school record and was the most since the 1951 game against Missouri.
Among the penalties this season are eight personal fouls, one unsportsmanlike conduct against Pelini and one for roughing the passer. Pelini said he takes blame for his team not showing better restraint. He says his players need to learn to back away from heated situations before they escalate.
