Reflecting on a bruising defeat Saturday night at home in Memorial Stadium to the Missouri Tigers, Husker head football coach Bo Pelini Monday said his team needs to be more disciplined.

Through five games the Cornhuskers are on pace to set a school record for penalties. They were flagged 14 times for 101 yards against Missouri. The number of penalties tied the school record and was the most since the 1951 game against Missouri.

Among the penalties this season are eight personal fouls, one unsportsmanlike conduct against Pelini and one for roughing the passer. Pelini said he takes blame for his team not showing better restraint. He says his players need to learn to back away from heated situations before they escalate.

I'm joining the Bo's got to go group.

Posted by: z on Oct 8, 2008 at 05:17 AM
Let's see, Bo walks around yelling and acreaming at players, other coaches and the Refs, all while chewing gum at 900 miles and hour and he says his PLAYERS need more disciplined? Give me a frigging break.

Posted by: ticked off on Oct 7, 2008 at 08:03 PM

GO OKLAHOMA GO TEXAS TECH GO KANSAS PELINIS GUYS ARE NOT IN THERE YET AND I AM GONNA ENJOY THE RIDE WHILE I CAN. I CANT STAND ALL THE BAND WAGON JUMPERS IN THIS STATE...I DONT HATE THE HUSKERS I HATE THE WANNABE FANS!!! WHEN PELINI FINALLY GETS HIS PEOPLE IN THERE THE HUSKERS WILL BE GOOD AGAIN AND ALL THE WHINING CAN STOP. BTW CHASE YOU MAY HAVE GOTTEN SPIT IN THE FACE BUT YOU CAN REVELL IN THE FACT THAT YOU SPIT ON THE HUSKER SEASON!!!

Bo's got to go bring in Luke.

Posted by: T on Oct 7, 2008 at 01:50 PM
Geez, there are a BUNCH of whiner husker football fans. Even when TO was coach, there were thousands who whined about a call or two that ALWAYS "costs" us the game. I am a Husker fan, and used to get riled up a lil bit when other teams used to talk about the whiny fans, BUT, I can really now see where they were coming from. I'm starting to think we have some of the worst fans out there. Get a grip! It's gonna take time for Bo to get it going. Maybe even 10-15 years or so. Even TO didn't win the big ones for about 20 years. Go Bo, you're doing well. Don't listen to the bandwagon and keep on rolling.

Posted by: Bo on Oct 7, 2008 at 12:57 PM
So much for the BoLiever groups. Jump on the "Bo got to go!" bandwagon.

Posted by: I just wish they'd on Oct 7, 2008 at 12:51 PM
keep the camera off Pelini...I have no desire to watch someone chew his cud on the sideline. As for the team, it takes a disciplined coach to create a disciplined team. Pelini hasn't shown himself to be disciplined.

Posted by: Nancy on Oct 7, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Leave Bo alone and the players! It is going to take time. We need to rally behind the team- win or lose. You call yourselves fans- stand up and cheer. They need us all right now! GBR!!!

Posted by: Don on Oct 7, 2008 at 11:13 AM
I'm sure T.O. can give him some pointers on team discipline as he had to deal with a lot of that in some of his previous "Husker bad boy " players. This all takes time and these are just young men who need mentoring. Bo has a big job on his plate and the only way to find out sometimes is to have a game like Mizzou gave them to figure out where to improve. Go for it , Bo! You have the tools and you have the talent. Go Huskers

people who thought we would be top ten material need to stop pointing fingers at BO. U need to remember none and i mean none! of his recruits have even stepped foot on the game feild give us this year to have a builing year and watch for our boys in red to come out next year with fires in their eyes and a the intent to rip off the opposing teams head!! NEXT YEAR IS THE YEAR WE SHOCK THE NATION!!! (LETS GO BO!!!)GBR!!!!

Posted by: Jeff on Oct 6, 2008 at 09:24 PM
After getting beat like they did, some of you are worrying about how Bo dressed? Is losing a game more easier in a taliored to fit italian suit.I never heard any of this when the worst coach in the history of UNL football(callahan) was in his sweatshirts and warm up pants. I mean really there are more important things to worry about.

Posted by: Dan on Oct 6, 2008 at 09:10 PM
Bo looks like a jerk everytime the camera is on him. What a jerk.

Posted by: Brandon on Oct 6, 2008 at 07:01 PM
Did you people seriously think Nebraska was going to be good this year? Once again, pointing fingers at the coach. I'm so ashamed as being a husker fan. Not because of a 53-17 loss to a #4 ranked team but because of my fellow fans. Guess what? Texas Tech is is this weekend and they are just as good as Missouri the 21 point spread on the game. Are you bitter fans going to come up with something new when it comes to blaming the coach or are you going to use the quotes from last year.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 6, 2008 at 06:04 PM
It's going to take Pelini a while to clean up the mess Callahan and Peterson left behind. I don't blame Bo for the bunch of quiters he was left with.

Posted by: Shawn on Oct 6, 2008 at 04:49 PM
Ha Ha Ha. Bo must Go!!!!

Posted by: Nebraskan on Oct 6, 2008 at 04:20 PM
Face it Nebraska...the days of old are gone...gone for good. We'll win some, we'll lose some, but we won't win them all. How about being real fans for a change...support your team through thick and thin. All of you are "safe haven" fans. At the sign of trouble you want to leave them because you can't deal with it. One more thing...it's just football.

Posted by: Sylvio on Oct 6, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Bo, You are doing a great job! You brought back the spirit, the team will come together with your coaching.

Posted by: con on Oct 6, 2008 at 03:58 PM
Sorry Bo, it sure didn't take long before the 'Husker Fans' started swinging for your head. Chin up and press on!

Posted by: John on Oct 6, 2008 at 03:47 PM
is this the second game where Coach Bo had a personal foul called on him? wow what sportsmanship from the coach it must really upset the Huskers when they hav to play real teams...maybe if the huskers were any good they wouldn't have these issues... NCAA should punish the husker program to knock them off their high horse see them for what they are a really bad, bad, football team

Posted by: yeah BJ on Oct 6, 2008 at 03:29 PM
adults are mouthy too, aren't they?

Posted by: Super Mario on Oct 6, 2008 at 03:23 PM
Cmon now BJ. "Nintendo generation" what does that even mean? Does it mean my generation has better hand-eye cordination or better problem-solving skills? I'm just glad I didn't grow up in the black and white color tv generation, because I would be a grumpy old gray hair that goes to Nebraska games and does not cheer. You need to stay at home and play bingo!!!

Posted by: To Bj on Oct 6, 2008 at 03:07 PM
It's more irresponsible to mass label a bunch of FOOTBALL PLAYERS, sounds like you got spanked a few too many times.

Posted by: Ryan on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:51 PM
Different Coach ... Same Results! Bo may know Diddley, but Bo don't know DEFENSE!!!

Posted by: ya on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:50 PM
Takem out behind the wood shed

Posted by: bill-Youngstown on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:38 PM
It will take time to un-do the damage Callahan and Pedersen did. We're behind ya BO..I like the emotion but I do think you should dress a little better and LOSE the gum. Looks ignorant.

Posted by: Josh on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:33 PM
"To Anonymous" Really, Really, you are worried about what BO is wearing. WOW. Who cares what he is wearing. Bill Belichick For the New England Patroits always wears a sweater and he has never won has he??? Get over what he is wearing. All you need to do is cheer and wish them ( the huskers if you are confused) a good game. GBR. Bo, I dont care if you come out in a speedo as long as you chew that gum and put this program back where it was in the past.

Posted by: mickey on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:29 PM
Bo I think u rock! Who cares how u dress, nobody is even paying attention to what the coaches wear!!!! Cannont expect a miracle in his first year do you think u could do a better job? We know the cornhuskers will be back

Posted by: JT on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:14 PM
You ARE LOOKING LIVE!!! AT NOT a very good football team who have lost confidence over the years to compete with inferior talent and not knowing how to win. Coach Callahan's team had more disipline then the 2008 Huskers have shown so far. GO BIG RED

Posted by: Anon on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:07 PM
GO BIG DER!!!! Where's Solich when you need him. We have a habit of jumping ship WAY too soon. We should still have Solich and we would still be in bowl games and end the season with winning records!!

Posted by: JB on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:03 PM
Well, we do have to give them time before we can expect to be winning like they used to......hang in there, and don't be fare-weather fans, Nebraska!

Posted by: Kevin on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:56 PM
Bo's got to go!

Posted by: To Anonymous on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:56 PM
Really? Wow, of all things, Coaches attire is your biggest complaint....must be rough being you.

Posted by: L on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:46 PM
SOME of those penalties should never have been called, in my opinion. Pretty subjective, if you ask me.

Posted by: BJ on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:29 PM
They sound like just a bunch of babies to me. Nintendo generation. This is what happens to kids when they are not spanked. They grow up into irresponsible adults and idiots.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:25 PM
Geee Bo - sounds like you could take a little of your own advice. And how about dressing like a "coach" for the game - your brother dresses better and he's not even head coach!

Posted by: Scott on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:11 PM
When did UNL re-instate freshmen football because that couldn't have been the varsity team playing Saturday night??
