An Omaha school bus fell through a city street Monday morning leaving a hole about 5 to 6 feet wide at 34th and Jones.

It was not immediately clear what caused the street to give way. There were no children on the school bus. An eyewitness at the scene tells Channel Six News the bus driver was between runs when the bus fell through the street.

The bus driver and the kids that were on the bus were okay. Should have seen the driver's face, looked like she was remebering a movie scene from volcano!

Live with it! We had to cut down on street repair ion order to bankroll that nice new stadium.

To Anonymous, sure everyone is going to complain. Our city seems to be falling apart and nothing is being done because all our money is going to other things like the bridge and the stadium. I'm sure most of Omaha can agree with me when I say it's extremely frustrating.

I am glad no kids were hurt...it doesn't say anything about how the driver is doing, but I hope he or she is ok as well. Try explaining that one to dispatch..."Yeah, I can't make it to the next stop, the bus is in a hole." Yikes!

To whoever posted the "to Angelo" at 1:36 - didn't you hear?? - Paul's stepping down to go back to teaching in December. Don't know who to tell you to complain to after that happens.

I am tired of construction in my area year after year. I live in a nice neighborhood with new streets and the city is always fixing our roads that aren't even damaged. Why can't they take that money and fix the streets in the poorer neighborhoods where the fix is really needed? Oh wait, because who cares about the poor when the rich voting taxpayers are the ones that matter! Right Mr Fahey?

What? A Hole in the Omaha Streets? No way there's no potholes or holes in Omaha Streets. Guess the "Pork Barrel Bridge and the "New Stadium" are more important than a street with a hole in it.

Supposedly Fahey had knee surgery recently. Call up the REAL mayor, Paul Lando, if you want something done.

Do you think he fell in the hole?

Thank goodness, something new to bring out the baseball/footbridge critics! Finally, a new reason to complain!!!

Too bad the hole in the Public school system is bigger than the hole the bus fell in.

Posted by: me on Oct 6, 2008 at 12:00 PM
and - don't forget the foot bridge which was a real necessary item.

I live near this location and am concerned about the streets in the neighborhood. I have a hole right outside my home that's been there for two weeks now. Where's Mayor Fahey?

Did someone say new baseball stadium??? I can't wait!!! :-)

Posted by: Mike on Oct 6, 2008 at 11:15 AM
No money for the streets, we have a stadium to build and fire/police pensions to pay.

Typical of the crumbling infrastructure in this city. Oh but we'll have a pretty, new, state-of-the-art baseball stadium to use 2 weeks out of the year.
