The U.S.D.A. has issued a salmonella warning related to frozen chicken dinners, but appears to be placing the blame on consumers.

The warning comes after 32 people reported illnesses in 12 states. They ate frozen Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken Kiev, and Stuffed Chicken Breast dishes.

The U.S.D.A. says customers ate the chicken only after microwaving it, which is not what the packages directed.

Officials did not release the brand names of the frozen dinners, or what states were affected.

to Tom: I took "User" to mean he'd had salmonella poisoning for two weeks. Not unheard of, but not common. to I wonder...: you would have to take ALL poultry of ALL kinds off of the market to truly rid the marketplace of salmonella. Salmonella is quite common in chicken and turkey (and even eggs), but proper cooking will kill it in most instances. Two things: #1 chicken should NEVER be pink, or "medium rare" and #2 when the skin is pierced with a fork the juices should run CLEAR. Or, you can do as previously suggested and buy a meat thermometer. The safe readings for all types of meat, fish and poultry are written right on ours, AND it can be used inside the oven, as well as used after cooking time is up.

possible could it be that they couldnt Read INSTRUCTION! VERY VERY LIKELY . PERHAPS ICONS WOULD HELP OUT. Just a theory! Never assume any thing in life now days!

will the USDA follow the stupidity of the FDA and take all frozen chicken products off the shelves as the FDA did with children's medications? Obviously a small number of people aren't smart enough to read the cooking instructions, so all should suffer because of those people's inability to read directions.

to "USER" if you've had it after two weeks of cooking it. I'd get rid of it and not even think about re-heating it or eating it cold. Now if it's frozen immediately after cooking then your fine for a month or so as long as you have it propely wrapped.

Though I agree in spirit with Anonymous at 1:42 pm, one might argue that the Salmonella shouldn't have been in the food in the first place. That's why these companies are subject to health inspections and are required to adhere to code.

I don't blame them for not giving the name of the company that makes these if it is truly consumer error. Why should the company be put into a negative spotlight if it is truly consumer error. What is even sadder is I am sure there will be lawsuits to follow from the consumers that got sick even though it was their fault....

If people would follow cooking directions, a lot of these food-borne illnesses would never happen. Invest in a meat thermometer, people...it's a small price to pay to ensure you don't get sick.

You are supposed to bake those things. Not microwave them. It says right on the box you will get sick if you microwave them.

So they didn't release the name of the products or the states affected? Great!! Very efficient!

First, I would like to know why Officials did not release the brand names of the frozen dinners, or what states were affected. The public has the right to know.

Ahh this is terrible I have this issue right now. Although my chicken was cooked in the oven for the recommended time limit of 30-35 minutes. I have had it for almost 2 weeks!
