Local chefs donated their time and talent to an organization that gives hope and help to families who lose loved ones. Eight metro restaurants served up some of the best burgers in Omaha at Sunday night’s dinner party.

Chef Alex Swandt works at Sage, the student bistro at Metro Community College. "We use everything local, local meat, local cheese, local tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, so tried to source everything from around this land."

While the food was excellent, something else was more important. The Happy Hollow Country Club dinner was all about raising funds and awareness to help Ted E. Bear Hollow.

"My baby sister lost her battle with cancer and she was a single mom and I got her kids," said Rose Martin, one of the many volunteers with a personal connection to the organization.

"It would have been excruciatingly difficult. I was going through health problems and a divorce myself and was not on my feet emotionally."

The organization sponsors a number of grief camps throughout the year. Children who've lost loved ones attend the camps for free. They participate in a number of projects specifically designed to help them cope with their feelings.

“I will never be able to give back what Ted E. Bear Hollow has given us, never," said Martin.

What Ted E. Bear Hollow gives, says Swandt, is healing and hope, both priceless in a time of crisis. "I wanted to help and be a part of it because I know it was tough for me coming up after the loss to deal with that and so the organization helps children deal with the loss so I wanted to be a part of it."

More than 200 people stepped up and helped Ted E. Bear Hollow for this second annual Comfort Food Classic, raising $50,000.
