Unintentional injuries are the greatest cause of death among people under the age of 44. Sunday, the National Safety Council showed firsthand how to eliminate danger.

Fifty exhibitors from local fire and police departments and other organizations gave demonstrations at 126th and Harrison of the kind dangers present in everyday life.

Children and adults saw the results of drinking and driving, witnessed its consequences and got a hands-on lesson in putting out fires.

“The different activities, like OPPD where they have the squirrel catch on fire and have the hot dog, it got the kids' attention and made us stop and think about what happens, what could happen in different situations,” said Kris Dennis of Omaha.

This was the 23rd annual Family Safety Day hosted by the greater Omaha chapter of the National Safety Council.

"Unintentional injuries"? Is this the new, politically-correct term for "accident"?
