Halloween may be a few weeks away, but it's never too early to give or receive a treat.

Dozens of new and used costumes and monetary donations for face paint and accessories are being collected for local children by Paddock Road Elementary School at 3535 Paddock Road, southwest of 90th and Center.

The fundraiser was started to help give children a chance to enjoy Halloween. "It's fun, it's all about kids for me,” says Paddock’s Kelli Urbach. “I remember being a kid and I remember going through it all. It's just fun, it's a fun thing to do and we're excited."

To give a costume or monetary donation or if you need a costume, contact Paddock Road Elementary at 390-6465.

Hah you religious nuts are great fun! You steal a few holidays and then make a fuss when a holiday you cannot claim as your own is showcased. Halloween as you know it now is commercial fun. Do you burn a Yule log? Own a tree that you put up on "christmas"? Kiss under a mistletoe? Hide easter eggs and decorate your home with bunnies for "easter"? If you do then you are defacing your religion by celebrating in the form of another's ancient followers. Stop your complaining and deal with it, everything doesn't revolve around your religion anymore. Others have used their American right to put your religion in it's place, halloween is not religious.

You actually CAN still sing religious songs in public schools, they just can not be more than 50% of a program. Most schools also have a "review board" of sorts to be sure the standard is adhered to.

It's not a double standard because Halloween is NOT a religious holiday. I'm sure the kids celebrate Thanksgiving too by making and dressing like Turkeys. But again that is not a religious holiday. I wish it were the old days again though where kids sang Christmas songs. We can't offend anyone though so everyone else suffers.

As I am told, at Christmas the kids aren't allowed to sing songs about Christmas or Jesus, but lets go ahead and obtain costumes for the children to celebrate Halloween. Seems like a double standard to me.

Hey, citizen... look up the history of Halloween (All Hallow's Eve, or Samhain, if you want to actually look into another religion besides your own). It originated to scare evil away. Calling the holiday of Halloween (which, btw, is my little girl's favorite, right next to YULE) evil is just plain ignorant, sorry to say.

I don't remember reading anything in this article about evil.....it's about donating makeup and costumes so kids can go out trick or treating with their families. Besides, kids costumes like transformers, spiderman, and Disney princesses are a far less concern for me than people shooting other people. Grow up and help this good cause!

Public School! No Christianity but evil is OK.
