An Omaha teen was wounded Sunday morning after an exchange of thrown beer bottles ended in gunfire.

Eighteen-year-old Juan Rodriguez told police he and his friends started throwing beer bottles at the suspect around 1 a.m. at South 36th Avenue and Y Street.

The suspect threw them back, then left and returned opening fire. Rodriguez was hit and taken to the Nebraska Medical Center by private vehicle. His injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The suspect drove away from the scene.

You come by my house and throw anything at me or mine.... I will shot you to! Not at you, I will shot you.. It is not concealed.. it is called protecting you and yours!

With all the shootings & Stuff lately, why would you even put yourself in that position? Is it because everyone keeps mentioning that all this stuff happens in North Omaha so you are stupid enough to think it doesn't happen anywhere else, or what? If you ask me, that's what you get. A bottle can be a dangerous weapon.

"Im sure the little girl going thru countless surgeries because her scalp was RIPPED OFF her HEAD would not agree with you, "dang dogs" obviously need to be worried about. Think before you speak, wise one!!!!" Well wise one, why is it you see a shooting or stabbing in Omaha everyday, and a dog bite maybe every other week, sad really, candy coating the real problem!

Your comments are foolish. Anyone legally carring a concealed firearm would not return to the scene of a beer bottle throwing incident. Use your head sir.

Rodriguez,I should have told you this befor 5 Oct. When I was a teenager some friends and myself were throwing rocks at cars as the vehicles drove by, One driver must have seen us and when he approached the targeted area he displayed a huge handgun, with no words spoken or action we never fired stones at cars again.

Uh, Joe? I don't think concealed weapons were even mentioned in the story. I'm usually the one standing up for the right to self defense and CCW around here, but it is most definitely _not_ self defense if you leave the scene and return with a weapon.

Did they consume the contents of the bottles before they threw them or did they just find them laying around on the ground. At least charge them for littering if nothing else will stick and tatoo I'm stupid across there forehead.

Let that be a lesson: Don't bring a beer bottle to a gun fight.

While I agree that the 'victim' who threw bottles was an idiot and that his actions led up to the reaction, I still don't feel that going to get a gun and shooting someone is the appropriate response. Call the police? Throw the bottles back at them and then fight with your fist like a real man? To leave, come back and then shoot. Not smart-

1. I thought carrying a concealed weapon was legal in Nebraska. 2. A beer bottle can be a deadly weapon. 3 Why was an 18 year old in possesion of a beer bottle? Sounds like a clear case of self defense, but we shall see when the race of the gunman is revealed how you really feel.

If we had tougher penalties for gun crimes in Omaha people would think twice about their actions and guns. It's the only cure for the gun epidemic.

stuff happends.legal walk the streets and tell us what would you carry a gun or a flash light...lol

Karma Baby... if you had acted like a normal person and not thrown beer bottles, you wouldn't have been shot later. Geez...

On a grand jury, I'd return "no bill". If on a jury, I'd vote to acquit. They provoked it.

Yes, beause dumb and dumber are usually the ones throwing bottles, and shooting guns with their dang dogs

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:11 AM
Look Omaha, you was worried about a dog, and you got dumb and dumber's running around throwing bottles and shooting guns, I think I would worry more about the ignorant people, then a dang dog.

You are right anonymous - the first quality part of town being the part where you live. Sounds to me like your neck is a little red, and I don't mean from the sunshine. But then this shade of neck is pretty plentiful in your part of town - isn't it?

Will the taxpayers get stuck with Juan Rodriguez' hospital bill at NMC? Hey, NMC administrators, go after him and sue him, rather than increasing charges to law-abiding patients.

Was Juan Rodriguez arrested for assault? Were his friends arrested? Has anyone checked their legal status? Drinking alcohol at his age? Public intoxication? Perhaps his parents should be atrrested, too, for child neglect. His stupidity and criminal behavior led to his being shot. HE DESERVED TO BE SHOT!
