Police in Washington, D.C. now say that the report of gunfire at a House office building, which caused the building to be locked down for most of the day, apparently was prompted by some construction equipment.
They say workers in an elevator area of the parking garage were using equipment that might have sounded like shots being fired.
A Capitol Police spokeswoman says it was a "valid call" from a congressional employee, reporting what sounded like gunfire. But in the end, she says, it turned out to be the sound of some "routine duties" being performed by construction workers.
