An Otoe County sheriff's deputy fired his weapon at a vehicle fleeing the scene of a weekend party where several minors were drinking alcohol.
The sheriff's office says the deputy was trying to protect himself.
The Otoe and Lancaster county sheriff's offices and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to a field in rural Otoe County where the party was held. As law enforcement approached, people in vehicles began trying to leave the area.
Officers stopped several of the vehicles. One driver got away when he or she stopped and then attempted to run over a deputy who was out of his patrol vehicle.
The sheriff's office didn't say if the vehicle was struck. The driver has not been located.
Thirteen minors were cited for being in possession of alcohol.
