This holiday weekend is a big one in the heartland, so big you'll need three days or more just to fit it all in. We have festivals, football, food, fairs and parades and lots more.
If you can't find something to do this weekend you're just not trying hard enough.
The Nebraska State Fair wraps up Monday in Lincoln while at Qwest Center Omaha there is Septemberfest. Its crew was piecing together the newest attraction at the carnival and organizer Terry Moore was there to make sure all of the seats were in the right spot.
This year Septemberfest is bringing back outdoor boxing. "It's based on the old style under the tent like a lot of boxing used to be. It'll be Friday Night at the Fights and we got some really good talent that's going to be here."
The Septemberfest standards are still there, games up and down the midway and the rides will be as popular as ever.
At La Festa Italiana, they're excited about the new flavors of gelati. Earlier they were working hard to make the sure everything was in place for Friday night's start at Omaha Roncalli High School.
"The main draw is the food and the other thing, I don't know what other people think of Italians, but we're usually pretty festive people when people come over we want to sit down and feed them something, have a glass of wine with them and we try and have a good time,” says La Festa Italiana’s Terry Bolamperti.
That's the goal at the Nebraska Sate Fair, from animals to rides to the midway, it's all about fun and it lasts all weekend. All of the events, no matter how popular, expect a lull around 6 p.m. Saturday. "Nobody beats the Huskers, you can't beat that," says Moore.
The Bo Pelini era kicks off at Memorial Stadium against Western Michigan and the excitement is high as fans hope the phrase "nobody beats the Huskers" catches on.
