Debora Maruca-Kovac has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Nineteen-year-old Robert Hawkins had been living in her home prior to his deadly shooting spree at the Westroads Von Maur store last December. He killed eight people before killing himself.

Sarpy County Judge Robert Wester sentenced Maruca-Kovac on Thursday.

The charge is related to a February search of her Bellevue home. Police found 2.5 ounces of marijuana and some drug paraphernalia there. She pleaded no contest to the delinquency charge as part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid misdemeanor drug charges.

@Steve: I agree, such a heinous crime as this and being a medical professional to boot! No way could she be a good person, not using that marijuana stuff right. Your picture in the dictionary under "Politically Correct Clueless Redneck Hick" was the perfect choice. WHATEVER?

Bob, I cannot believe WOWT even posted your comment. You are not stating any facts! Where did you get this information? I'm not defending this woman or condoning what she did, or did not do. But these "facts" that you speak of are not so. And how does this charge have anything to do with the Von Maur scumbag? because he lived in her house?! C'mon Channel 6! Why is this scumbags parents not being held accountable for anything? Why is everyone going after a woman that was the only person that would take him in? People need to direct their lynch mob and blame at someone else!

Bob, where did you get your info on courts records? were you in the court room? What is your connection with the case?

I would much rather have my kids smoking pot then out DRINKING AND DRIVING with their friends any day like all the Millard rich kids do. This women only became the subject of Law Enforcement harrassment because she tried helping someone! Do you believe everything you read in the paper and hear on the news Bob? You are gullible if you do. I hope Deb gets out of jail and moves as far away from Nebraska as she can and gets on with her life and is able to forget all that has happened to her. And come on Bob, if her husband left her already, don't you think if she was smoking with her kids, he would have known BEFORE Hawkins went on his killing spree? Something for you to ponder in your "perfect little world". Or is your kid one of those who goes to Westside and PICKS on other kids?

Good for the court system. She was stupid not to lay low and quit breaking the law in the first place. She was housing a mass murdered (I still can't say his name in death and give him the credit he so badly needed and desired) and still continued to do illegal stuff. Come on, anyone else would of known that they were going to be watched! This should be a wake up call to other parents who are too busy trying to be friends with their kids rather then PARENTING them! Maybe this jail time will clean her up!

Wonderful Parent Karen?? Read the court papers. She was smoking with her kids 4-5 times a week. Her own sons told authorities that she sent them to buy. She has been in trouble twice at employers for narcotic issues. Yea, gee I wish she was my mom. Please get a clue.

I agree with Joe that this judge is a fool. The only reason this reached this point is because the Judge, Sarpy Deputies, and all others involved had to look like they were doing something in regards to the terrible shooting. The judge knew this would make news so he ruled in a role that would make him shine in the news. As for the news media, she was sentenced for nothing to do with Robbie Hawkins, so why is he mentioned in the story? I will give you that answer: so that it makes the story more newsworthy. She was a wonderful mother who made mistakes just like every other parent out there has done. We all might have made different mistakes but we are all guilty of something wrong in our kids upbringing. Shame on the Court System. Shame on the Police & most of all shame on all of you Perfect People out there who are guilty of nothing but being the perfect parent.

Wasn't this the lady who told the media (and anyone else who would listen) that she knew her sons were drinking and smoking marijuana in the basement of her home and she thought it was okay? If she's looking for sympathy, she's barking up the wrong tree!

This family is being targeted and held responsible for the acts of Robbie Hawkins. Society needs to blame someone, and they are handy. This household might not have been the Cleaver family, but they were not the devil incarnate either. Anyone else would not have been sentenced to 90 days for contributing to a minor.

You sentence this woman, but let drunk drivers go? Where is your brain Judge Bob? You are officially an idiot. I can not wait to vote you out. You are such a terrible judge. you let everyone plea there way out, why dont you try "JUDGEING" people and making sure the punishment fits the crime. You are doing nothing useful for the law abiding citizens of Sarpy County by letting criminals and drunk drivers back out on the street.

it is about time!

Guess she was not the mother Theresa that so many people thought. Good for Sarpy County.

o.k., she was sentenced for contributing. she was arrested in february, 2 months after the incedent in november at von maur. i will commend the media for making robert hawkins a celebrity. these charges had nothing to do with him. even after his death he is playing you like a fiddle.
