A Bellevue man survived a house explosion Wednesday morning, managing to escape without injury.
"I was in the house watching TV, clicked the channel, all of a sudden, boom, it exploded," said 38-year-old Jim Wilson. "I smelled something and boom."
That boom around 9 a.m. blew out the windows of the house he rents at 24th Street and Chandler Hills Drive. It also blew out the front door from the frame and into the yard and started a fire downstairs.
“I didn’t even get a scratch," said Wilson. "I can’t believe it either, I didn’t even get a scratch or anything." He and his dog managed to get out alive.
Wilson believes a wall in the home sheltered him from the brunt of the explosion. "The way the couch is sitting behind a protective wall so I'm assuming that’s what helped me. I cant believe it either, actually."
According to Jim, this wasn’t the first time he has dodged death. He said back in high school he got into a car crash that should have killed him.
“They had to shock me twice at the scene, they had to cut three tracheotomies. I was in a coma for 90 days." Wilson says plastic surgeons put his face back together.
The cause of the explosion has been labeled suspicious and is still under investigation.
