The man shot in a confrontation with law enforcement officers Tuesday afternoon will appear in Douglas County Court on Thursday.

Thirty-one-year-old Matthew Loth is accused of being a fugitive from justice. He's also wanted in Sarpy County on outstanding warrants.

Loth is facing at least one charge in Iowa for attempted murder. It's expected he'll be returned to Iowa after his Nebraska court appearances.

Authorities say Loth swerved at an officer in Council Bluffs, then fled the scene around 4 p.m. He wound up at South Omaha Bridge Road and the South Expressway where he was arrested. Investigators say he veered toward an Iowa state trooper. That officer fired twice in Loth's direction, hitting him once.

Loth was taken to the hospital in what was initially called critical condition, but he was treated, released and jailed. A woman in the car with Loth was also taken into custody.

Mark I imagine if the individual stole your car or the individual who stole the car and the robbed you at gunpoint and the police had chose not pursue them..you would be wanting to sue the city for not chasing and catching them...huh?

Mark- I was in the traffic jam watching the whole thing on South Omaha Bridge Road and the South Expressway. This idiot put everyone around him in danger from the very beginning of this whole mess. When he tried to put the car in drive and run down the troopers that were ordering him out of the car, the troopers did what they needed to do to make the rest of us safe. There has always got to be one person that thinks the police are at fault and I am sorry that is the way that I took your comment. I am thankful that they did what they did and got this idiot off the streets. I just hope you never need the police.

What is going on in this city?????? People are losing their minds. Every day it's something else. It's getting REALLY OLD. Find something productive to do with yourselves, like getting a job or going to school.

NO...TAXPAYERS DO NOT PAY FOR HIS MEDICAL EXPENSES. DIFFERENT HOS HAVE DIFERENT PROGRAMS TO HELP PEOPLE, AND EVERYONE IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR MCDE SO YOU DO NOT PAY THERE BILLS.

To Mark, If police dont chase, all will run and no will face their crimes and we would live in a lawless society. Dont blame the ignorant that run on law enforcement.

Ne should be able to send the bill to the Iowa State Patrol if they had been better shots no medical bill would have been needed.

As soon as shots were fired, the MORON should have had a bullett put in his head. Let the cameras and witnesses be used in a Grand Jury. Maybe if these loser criminals knew they were going to be killed as soon as they pull a gun(and not shot to incapacitate them)they may think before doing it.

They came down Twin City Drive right past our house and lots of kids are in this area including an elementary school. I am glad they caught him and put him away because he was obviously dangerous to everyone and only cared about getting away. I hope the woman with him gets a clue.

Does anyone know who foots the medical bill when an incident like this occurs in another state? They guy was shoot by Iowa LE, but treated in NE. Which makes sense since the trauma center are in Omaha. It would seem odd that the NE taxpayers foot the bill though.

we were involved in the chase testerday on hwy 275. The vehicle that was stolen and that hit 3 different cars was that necessary to pursue and have the stolen vehicle hit other vehicle. Was that a necessary chase that could have killed people. I would like to know if the police were in the wrong or right to what happened to the people that were innocent bystanders. thank you.
