Two University of Nebraska wrestlers have been dismissed from the program after nude and partially clothed pictures of them appeared on a Web site.
Nebraska Head Wrestling Coach Mark Manning issued the following statement Tuesday regarding the status of Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan.
“Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan have been permanently dismissed from our wrestling program. The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat. We have outstanding student-athletes in our program and we will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals. I want to personally apologize for any embarrassment that may have been caused for our athletic department, the University and our fans.”
NCAA athletes are not allowed to use pictures of themselves for commercial purposes.
The coach said in a statement Saturday that he was "aware of the matter and it is being reviewed internally. We will have no further comment until all the facts of the situation are known."
That statement was followed by the one Tuesday afternoon saying that the two have been dismissed from the NU program.
The athletic department's code of conduct lists as its first rule: "Always present a positive image, don't do anything to embarrass yourself, the team, your family or the university."
Donahoe, a senior from Davison, Michigan, won the Big 12 championship at 125 pounds in 2008 and placed third in the NCAA tournament. He won the 125 national title in 2007.
Jordan, a junior 133-pounder from Frankfort, Illinois, was fourth in the Big 12 and failed to place at nationals this past season.
