A celebration of thanks for the work done by the Air Force was held at Rosenblatt Stadium Saturday night to kickoff Air Force Week in the Heartland.

The Air Force Academy's Wings of Blue jump team dropped in to open the ceremonies in style. Dignitaries were on hand, including Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman. Channel 6 News own Dave Webber helped lead the celebration.

Air Force Week gives citizens the chance to meet and interact with airmen and women and to learn about what they do. Those serving our country say the whole experience is very gratifying.

"It's just so wonderful to have people come up to you out of the blue, even when you're at the airport, thanking you for the service," said Tech. Sgt. Randy Marquart from Offutt Air Force Base.

The festivities wrapped up with a fireworks display. Omaha is one of three cities in the country, along with Philadelphia and Los Angeles, designated to host Air Force Week this year.
