Omaha Police have identified a man who was critically injured in a home invasion and shooting early Friday morning as 28-year-old Random Goynes. He was shot several times around 12:30 a.m.

The incident happened near 36th and Laurel.

Officers responding to a report of a robbery and shooting found Goynes outside the front door of 5920 North 36th Street. He had been shot in the back and the leg and he was transported to Creighton University Medical Center for treatment of injuries that police say are potentially life-threatening.

A woman and three children were inside the home.

The suspects have been identified only as three men in hooded sweatshirts.

I know Randy and he is a good person who don't bother no one So whoever have anything bad to say about Randy don't judge w/out knowing a person and don't judge only by reading the paper or listening to the news remember the problem is in No O so who cares let it go out west and from the mayor office to the white house will be finding a cure to end the shooting problem and the new reporters and the w h newspaper won't be so hsppy to report the story if it was in west O

You all forget about Michael Goynes? He was in the car with Javon Reed when he was shot and killed by police after pulling a gun and pointing it at officers. Ole Michael was all over the news saying Javon didn't have no gun.

It seems like there is a shooting every day. I dont understand why our city leadership can't get more involved to control this more. I feel like because of where it is and who it involves... people dont care....as long as it is not in their neighborhood. I see this as a huge problem. I wish more people cared to make a change. It is all so sad to me. We live in Omaha, not not some major metropolis like New York or LA, but the crime is getting out of hand in certain areas-when everyday we hear there is another shooting. City leaders cant you do more to get this under control? I dont hear much at all about what is being done to help improve this situation. Maybe if we focused on some of the good that people are trying to do to help clean things up, that over time peoples mindsets will change...and want to get involved.

I'm sure glad my last name isn't Goynes... regardless of what this man was doing though, he didn't deserve to be shot. I'll keep him in my prayers that he recovers and is able to get his life back on track.

Too bad no one will have seen anything & the scum that did it will get away w/ it. Maybe the people who know what happened should think about what they would want done had THEY been shot. Personally I am sick of hearing about the shootings in No Omaha. THey happen ALL the time & the residents of NO are doing NOTHING to stop it. The police can't be blamed for all of the crime up there when NO ONE up there is helping STOP the crime by turning in the people who are pulling the trigger.

Thats same last name as girl that was shot the other night must be a family thing.

Wasn't there a lady shot just a few days ago with the same last name? Is there any relation between the two that could point to a possible motive. Are either of them related to the Goynes that killed Aaron Lofton? I am not trying to jump to conclusion, I am jsut trying to see if there is a connection.

So does anyone find it odd that the name "Goynes" has come up in the news in 3 different shooting incidents! Deonte Goynes for shooting Lofton, one of the girls shot off of 37th and Grand, and now this man shot off of 36th and Laurel! Odd ?!?

it is never going to get better

Maybe I am reaching but wasn't one of the teen girls just recently shot also a Goynes? I don't know if these two people are related but the shootings were within blocks and days of each other... maybe that family should consider moving away from North Omaha...it seems to be hacking away at the family tree!

I just made a post...but now that I recall, there was a young man on the news that was just sentenced for murder, Daunte Goynes... I would have to assume that this young girl, and man were all related to this other young man, and this is a retaliation back on his family? I hope the police are looking into that.

Posted by: Brooke on Jul 25, 2008 at 10:25 AM
Is this person related the the young girl that was out at 2am who was just shot, with the same last name?

Posted by: wow on Jul 25, 2008 at 10:20 AM
Wow...3 goynes in gun related crimes in the last 6 months. You tell me how bad the crime is. Something tells me it's not all random people out minding their own business.

Okay, this does NOT sound random - the two teenage girls who were shot at the other day (the ones outside at 2AM - and I wonder what 2 teenage girls were doing outside at 2AM) were also named Goynes. Something is going on here... and of course no one will have seen or heard or known anything.
