A Pottawattamie County man was critically injured Thursday evening when his pickup truck crashed and landed upside down in a creek.

He is identified as 29-year-old Timothy Adland of rural Council Bluffs.

The crash happened along Railroad Highway, which parallels Interstate 80, northeast of Iowa Western Community College.

Mr. Adland was pinned and partially under the water when rescue crews arrived.

A passerby made the quick rescue possible.

Corporal Aaron Pattee, with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department says, "A witness stated he observed a vehicle that was going south on Railroad Highway. For some unknown reason, he exited the roadway, went into the ditch and ultimately came to rest in the Mosquito Creek."

Underwood Fire and Rescue freed the man. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

As I recall, concerned citizen, this bridge is not on a curve-it's a straight line stretch of highway. You are correct, people do need to slow on 191, but I have lived in the area for 25 years and I wouldn't consider this stretch of highway 'dangerous'. I wish Mr. Adland a speedy recovery.

If anyone remembers a few weeks back, officials found a young man dead in the exact same spot, yet everyone continues to drive carelessly along this strech of highway. Nobody realizes how dangerous that curve is. All who travel the highway need to slow down and be more cautious and maybe tragedies like this would happen less often. I have have driven highway 191 (Railroad Hyw) and I continue to use caution always when approaching Mosquito Creek.
