Potential future Olympians are in Omaha for the weekend. The National Junior Olympic Track and Field championships have taken over Burke Stadium.

Nearly 7,000 of the best young athletes from all over the country have come to compete in events featuring some of the nation's best athletes between the ages of eight and 18.

Lionel Leach, with USA Track and Field says, "It's going great. We're on schedule. The kids are having fun. We're putting down some fast times out here. And again, like I said, these kids are our future Olympians."

    And future college athletes.

Cindy Robinson, of California says, "Right now, I'm just focusing on getting into college. Because this is my senior year coming up. So that's my main goal."

All 50 states are represented here and local athletes like having the meet in their backyard.

Millard West senior Brittany Phillips says, "Usually I just compete with the people from Omaha. So to get to know all these other people from across the country is pretty amazing."

This is the third time in the past 10 years that Omaha has hosted the event. The city and the stadium are getting high marks from visitors but the weather is another story.

California's Deena Pierce says, "I don't like the weather. It's cold one day and it's hot the next day. So i don't really like the weather."

The meet continues through Sunday. Admission is $8.
