Omaha South High Magnet School students, meet your next principal. Thursday night, OPS Superintendent Mark Evans named Ruben Cano the school's next principal.
Cano is currently the principal at Norris Middle School.
His education career began by teaching for a year in Las Cruces, NM.
Cano then moved to Omaha, working as a teacher at South High for three years. He then served as dean of students at Lewis and Clark Middle School for a year. Cano is now nearing the end of a six-year stretch at Norris.
"My experience working with families in the South Omaha community -- and the knowledge I gained as principal at Norris -- will be invaluable as I move forward into this new chapter," says Cano.
Cano earned his master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from UNO in 2007.
Current Principal Cara Riggs is retiring this spring.
