A 47-year-old Elkhorn woman was killed in a traffic accident on West Q Street, just west of the Elkhorn River Friday.

It was a single-vehicle accident that happened at 6:15 Friday evening.

Marcia Heywood was not wearing her seat belt and died from massive trauma after being ejected from the vehicle.

A witness told investigators that the driver of an SUV heading westbound gradually drifted into the oncoming lane and then overcorrected and ended up in the ditch.

Sergeant Rob Jones, with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department says, "The vehicle flipped several times. The driver was ejected."

The impact was so severe, several trees were knocked down.

Heywood, was alone in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are investigating what caused her to drift into the oncoming lane before she overcorrected.
