A 21-year-old is dead after police say a drunk driver crashed into him at a Fourth of July party Saturday morning. Witnesses say the driver left the scene, but came back later and turned himself in to police.

Police called to 38th Street and Crown Point Avenue around 12:30 a.m. found 21-year-old Brandon Hadley of Omaha. He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition with head injuries and internal bleeding.

The driver of the SUV, 26-year-old Ronneal Colbert of Omaha, was arrested for DUI resulting in serious injury. Police are now looking into upgrading the charges against Colbert, who was not injured.

"I miss him,” says Dorothy Hadley of her grandson Brandon. “I miss him because he was fun, he really was.” Hadley was at his sister's house for a party when Colbert allegedly swerved into him.

"The guy who hit him got out of the car and told me he was sorry for hitting him, he didn't mean to hit him and then next thing you know he was gone," says sister Temica Hadley.

"I'm glad the police caught him, got him and I hope they throw the book at him,” says Dorothy. "It makes me mad they took his life, 21 years old, life just gettin' started."

Brandon was raised by his grandparents. "He never gave us any trouble, just real lovable," says grandfather Charles Hadley.

They now keep photos and childhood mementos close. Dorothy says he was especially gifted when it came to art and showed off pictures going back to grade school. “And I thought it was good and I made him feel important and he kept it up."

Brandon's sister says he had another gift. "His sense of humor. He was real silly and if I was angry about anything, he could make me laugh and make me smile and get over it."

She's not smiling much now, but she's not crying either. "Because I know that if he was down here, like watching, he would just be like, stop crying, I'm resting,” says Temica. “He's at peace."
