A local hero of the War in Iraq has passed away. Nine years ago, Sgt. James Lathan, Jr. was paralyzed from the neck down.
Sgt. Lathan was wounded in July of 2004. Three years later he came home.
Channel Six was there for a tour of his new house. It was built by volunteers, specifically to meet his needs.
He said it was "awesome." One of his favorite features was a flagpole in the front yard.
Serving our country was a family affair for Lathan. His father also served in the military. His younger brother John is in the National Guard.
Sgt. Lathan's funeral is set for Saturday at Lifegate Church.
