Rescue crews stopped searching the water at Halleck Park Sunday afternoon after finding clothing and a kick-ball next to a break in the ice. A mother said the items were of her son and his girlfriend.

The Papillion fire department and search teams from other communities were called in to search for a potential drowning victim.

A jacket, sweat pants and a pair of shoes were found near a break in the ice in addition to the kick-ball.

"We're not able to locate any victim at this time," said Jeff Strawn, Papillion fire chief. "We're not sure if there is a victim."

After watching the search on the news, a mother recognized the clothing found near the hole in the ice and called the police chief. She said it was her 17-year-old son's and his 16-year-old girlfriend's clothing.

The boy and his girlfriend are Papillion-LaVista South High School students.

The mother said the two went on the ice to feed birds when they fell through. They made it out but decided not to go back for their clothes.

Papillion police Chief Lenord Houloose said no charges will be filed against the teenagers.

He says he hopes this serves as a warning though to stay off the ice.
