Sunday evening a severe thunderstorm, carrying straight line winds and heavy rain, knocked out power and toppled trees across the Omaha metro area.

In Elkhorn, a power line snapped and fell into the road at 204th and Ames. The Nebraska State Patrol was called in to help block off the street and keep drivers from entering.

In addition to power lines, several trees and fences are damaged.
"The winds really picked up as I looked south toward where this thing was coming from," said Robert Walko. "You could just see a wall of water coming down the street and I told my wife we were going to go hide in our little area. About two minutes later, the wind really picked up and we heard the playset snap and crack."

OPPD crews are out in force working on repairs. At 10 p.m. Sunday, around 26,000 customers were without power. By 7 a.m. Monday, 6,600 outages remained.
