Showers and scattered thunderstorms may have woken you up extra early this morning, but this latest round of wet weather has a silver lining, bringing much needed rainfall across the metro.
Preliminary rainfall totals have varied between 1/3" to 1 full inch of rain since the overnight hours.
Recent rainfall has actually created a slight surplus of precipitation for the metro for 2013. This is great news, and a good way to offset the exceptional dry conditions of last year when the Omaha metro recorded the 29th driest year since weather records were kept, which says a lot since weather records stem back from the late 1800's.
At any rate the rain will prove to be beneficial to all of our thirsty lawns and gardens, and it is not over just yet. The forecast is calling for additional periods of showers through at least tonight.
