1,608,349 people attended the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in 2013. It's the second highest attended year at the zoo.
Two of the twelve months in 2013 were record setting, January and June.
This year's attendance is just below 2012's attendance which reached a record breaking 1,719,925.
Zoo officials say this year's turnout can be attributed to customer upgrades and enhancements including the new digital video board, an expanded gift shop, 1,000 additional parking space, and a new entrance sign and bus drop-off area.
There's also been significant births this year such as five African lion cubs, fossa, pygmy hippo and penguin chicks.
