It’s 11 years and counting for the United Way’s 2-1-1 Call Center serving Nebraska and southwest Iowa.
The 24/7 resource directs callers to various organizations and agencies that provide services like family counseling, utility bill assistance, and food pantries.
Call volume is higher than ever in its 11th year and employees say callers are grateful for the help.
Lena Thompson told us, “We've had people who have received assistance and who praise God over the telephone. We have those who just say thank you, I didn't know where to go. We have those who we actually advocate on their behalf."
Plans are in the works to have the 2-1-1 Call Center expand its services and partnerships and to play a bigger role in disaster relief and emergency service.
