Council Bluffs firefighters battled flames at an abandoned hotel for the second time in a year on Monday night.

Crews put out fires on two floors of the Ramada near I-29 and 25th Street just before 8 p.m.

Concerns were heightened when a woman who managed the property told firefighters her boyfriend may be inside. Firefighters searched the hotel once flames were extinguished and did not find anyone.

No word on what caused the fire, but crews are calling it suspicious.

I agree with JMS- time to tear some old buildings. CB has done a great job in recent years of fixing up areas and making new development, but they have pretty much forgotten west Broadway and areas directly north and south of that. Let's not let the existing areas dilapidate.

I smell scam. I drove past it at 5:30pm on Monday. First thing I noticed was a large number on the widows on the opper floors were open. Secondly the one set of doors were smashed and propped wide open I did not see any cars in the lot.

well hotel-- again you are wrong towards me because the building had been shut down for more then 6 months. yes the big hotel chains are good like the casino's are doing just fine but I have never seen anybody at that hotel anyways. so instede let it burn and endanger the firefighters who are going to this building when it should be torn down.

Well, that is one way to get rid of abandond buildings. Putting out the fires gives firefighters the training they need. Don't worry about us losing the revenue from the loss. We are doing much better now that Fahey introduced the restaurant and hotel tax.

Maybe there should be a law that says before a new building can be built an old abandoned ,condemned one needs to be torn down.

    insurance fraud?

Hey Hotel, it clearly states this hotel was abandoned. So no one would be staying there for an event of any kind. Sounds like it's reminiscent of Omaha's own Travel Inn on Dodge. Now THERE was a rat-infested, fleabag roach motel flophouse for you. I'm surprised at how long it took for the city of Omaha to bulldoze it!

I agree with Dave and JS! There are so many vacant buildings it looks terrible. The problem with CB is that new buildings are being built on a regular basis and FAST but the old vacant ones aren't being tore down. In CB alone there is the Old Broadway Bowl, the Old Jubilee, this hotel, the old Gordmans - the list doesn't end!

This Eyesore should have been torn down YEARS ago. I'm thinking after Holiday Inn left.

There is no shortage of abandoned buildings in both Omaha and Council Bluffs. They become attractive nuisances and should be demolished in a more timely fashion. The old Bob Gibson restaurant is a perfect example. It has been vacant for a long time, and should have gone a long time ago.

Hey dizzleB have you ever noticed that all those hotels are sold out when an event, concert or anything like that goes on in Council Bluffs...check your stats and numbers before you start yelpin at the hotel owners in Council Bluffs...obviously they are working just fine...you just have issues

another fire in this building. thats just great why not tear it down and put something else there. instede let send the whol fire dept to this building that was probley set on fire and yet when a real emergency comes in have to call on other stations to cover the call. CB Iowa you have way too many hotels in one area all ready i'm sure it's ok to lose one with out lose of money.
