Money to help fund river management

President Bush has signed legislation that supplies the federal share of money for the Platte River recovery program.

The $157 million provided in the bill the president signed Thursday will help carry out a three-state agreement with the federal government.

The agreement provides guidance on managing the Platte River to accommodate endangered species and the growing number of cities and farmers using the river.

The governors of Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska approved the plan in 2006.

Officials say the bill aims to ensure that compliance with the federal Endangered Species Act doesn't stop the water from flowing.

Does every story relate back to the stadium. You folks are letting it consume you. That is not healthy. MOVE ON !

This is where money should go to and not a new stadium.

I am the first one to stand up for endangered species. That is a great thing. But however, $157 MILLION? Does it really cost that much? I guess I don't understand what it costs to keep a river running but that seems excessive. Especially when gas is over $3.50 a gallon...I don't know....

Thats the best news I've heard in a long time!! I grew up on this river and have cousin's out west that rely on it for irrigation. I love seeing the migration of the birds each season that land and are dependent on the Platte River. I can only hope that this works for everyone. I am pleased that Bush actually stepped up to the plate and hope that it resolves all the issues.
