An Omaha woman shot in the head Sunday morning continues to fight for her life at Creighton University Medical Center. Jackson's roommate and another friend were there when it happened and said Monday gunfire was the last thing they expected.

Police say 20-year-old Kathleen Jackson was wounded at an apartment complex at 63rd and Taylor.

"It is a small apartment,” says friend Tiffany Elmore. “It is Sunday morning. Sunday morning, you should be settled down. There shouldn't be no partying going on. If somebody asks you to turn your music down, you should have respect to do that."

Jackson, her roommate and another friend had enough of the loud music coming from the apartment above so they went upstairs and knocked on the door.

"We asked her to turn it down,” says roommate Christina Owens. “It was three o'clock in the morning. The gentleman immediately caught an attitude. We went back downstairs to our apartment."

"He told us he would have some girls for us (to fight) and he did. He brought them and he knocked on our door and it was a big fight and the next thing I know, my friend is laying at my feet with a hole in her head."

“They went back upstairs like nothing happened,” says friend Brittani Elmore. “They have no remorse at all, none at all."

Brittani and Christina were involved in the fight. They say if they had known the neighbor had a gun, they wouldn't have complained about the loud music.

"If we've got to throw a couple punches to break it up then that's what we'll do,” says Christina. “We didn't expect guns to be fired. If that was the case, you could have played your music all night. You could have played your music to the loudest extent in the world. You could have played more music on top that music if it was going to end up to this."

"I would never be able to go back to that house, never. That's my friend. I could never go back to that home. I'm scared to go back there, for one because my friend got shot in this house."

Kathleen's friends say only one shot was fired and they know who pulled the trigger. Police have not made any arrests.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at 444-5656.
