There was extra security on patrol outside Westside High School Wednesday in the wake of several threats and vandalized vehicles this week.

A school spokesperson said the security included several police cruisers and a van. Additional officers will be in place for the rest of the week.

Around 200 students missed part or all of school Wednesday because of parental concerns. Classes will continue as usual for the rest of the week.

Fourteen vehicles had their windows shot out while students were in class on Tuesday. This happened a day after threats were found written in bathrooms.

"I'm a little scared," student Trent Hepburn said on Tuesday. "I'm more glad that no one was hurt, that no one was around at the time. I just feel a little bit upset that someone would do this, that someone would come by and smash 13 people's windows."

That number grew to 14, the latest incident at the school where Monday threatening messages were found written in several restrooms, leaving students and parents on edge.

Police and school administrators say there's no correlation between the two.

Students say they can't help but see a connection. "I'm just frustrated because this week and yesterday, there were a lot of things going on at school and now people are just being immature teenagers," says student Taylor Shaw.

“I think it's just probably someone who got off early and then came back to scare people," says student Garrett Johnson.

In a message to parents, Westside principal Pat Hutchings said action was being taken. "We want to assure you we believe our campus is safe. We have hired additional security inside and outside the building for the remainder of the week.” More surveillance cameras will also be going up.

For now, students are the one's paying for the damage. "It's not a joke, it's disrespectful and some people don't have the money to fix this," says Shaw. "We're going to be stuck paying for our own cars that we didn't even damage. I'm frustrated."

Whoever is behind the vandalism faces serious charges. Destruction of property is upgraded to a felony when damage totals $1,500 and this involved at least 14 vehicles.

As for the bathroom threats, joke or no joke, it could result in a charge of making terroristic threats.
