Fun Plex near 70th and Q is looking for a new spin on summertime entertainment. A roller coaster is on the agenda for next year.
When it first opened in the 1970s there were just go-carts. Attractions have been added over the years but owner Dwight Anderson says, "To be full-blown amusement park you need a roller coaster here."
The roller coaster would stand 90-feet tall and cost around $2 million.
Anderson says it's something the park should have built years ago. The closest ones are at Adventureland in Des Moines and Worlds of Fun in Kansas City.
Omaha has not had a roller coaster since the days of Peony Park but that ride ended in the early 1990s.
Fun Plex is going before Omaha's zoning board on Thursday hoping to win approval for the roller coaster. If everything goes as planned they want to start construction this fall.
