An Omaha man is on the mend after being bitten on Wednesday by two pit bulls.
Seventy-five-year-old Hopeton Hewett was bitten several times on the arm.
The Nebraska Humane Society's Val Poulton says, "The problem is pit bulls aren't bad dogs. The problem is the owners are doing things to make them no longer safe to be a family pet. In many cases they're dangerous."
The experts say there are no set rules on what to do if a dog decides to attack.
Poulton says, "Your response to the situation is going to be based on the animal's response. There are no hard and fast rules -- you should always do this. You always have to look at your situation."
There are a couple of things you can do to help avoid an attack. Never alarm the dog or tease the animal and don't appear to be prey by running or falling down.
