Authorities say that a man whose body was found in Council Bluffs earlier this week died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Nicholas Aaron McGrath's parents had been away for the weekend and found his body in their home at 17 Virginia Hill Road when they returned on March 24.

Investigators initially treated the home as a crime scene but told the family early on that they did not believe the death was suspicious.

An autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner's office in Ankeny and the medical examiner determined that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.

The sheriff says the source of the carbon monoxide appears to have been the furnace and the death is being viewed as accidental.

I've lived in Council Bluffs for 7 years. I did not know Nick personally but as tragic and unfortunate as this was to the family, my heart goes out to all that have lost a loved one in a family tragedy. I know what its like to lose a loved one so I know what you are going through. My condolences to you.

'Pat', why are you talking as if it was a suicide. The sheriff is saying it was ruled as an accidental death. Next time, read ALL THE WAY DOWN to the end of the article.

I knew Nicholas, however, I knew his twin brother and sister for years. I wish his family the best and request if they need anything, please let me know. I will continue to pray for the McGrath family!

Thank-you all, who had anything to do with letting/telling the public about the sad tragic story of Nicholas's death. There are so many people in this present world in which we live, who need good healthy caring & loving safety minded people to help them get by from one day to the next. Though I didn't know Nicholas personally, I have a feeling that we lost a nice young man who could have made a wonderfully great big difference in life, if only he had been steered in a different direction. The Lord giveth & the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Tell us what Heaven is like, Nicholas. I have a feeling that's where you are. :-)
