Omaha police have arrested a baby sitter on suspicion of felony child abuse. Twenty-five-year-old Mona Walker was booked in connection with injuries suffered by a three-and-a-half-month old child.

Officers responded to 1524 Drexel on Wednesday night on a report of an injured child.

Ms. Walker told police that she tripped over an ottoman while carrying the baby.

The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition with several head injuries, including a fractured skull.

Walker was interviewed at police headquarters where investigators determined that the child's injuries were not consistent with Walker's account of events. Police say the injuries were the result of intentional abusive actions.

    I absolutely agree!

To the mother who said people like this make it hard to find good child care: it also makes it hard for good child care providers to convince parents their children are safe. I know dozens of wonderful child care providers (home and center based) but no one ever hears about us. It is only the children who get hurt or killed in daycare that make the headlines. Shame on this grown woman for ruining the lives of the baby's family. The baby's grandmother is a friend of my mother-in-law. I am very sad for her - this precious baby is her granddaughter. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

There is a special place in hell for people who do things like this to babies and children.

FRACTURED SKULL PUNCHED IN THE FACE? What kind of person is she? Just a suggestion, prison for life! that would knock her skull in place. Lots of prison woman don't like child abusers, if she was babysitting my child i would show that woman what i've got. how could you do that to a 3 mo old child. common sense not to hit a child.

I know 2 wrongs dont make it right but if that was my baby the baby sitter would have a skull fracture too, that would be a natural reaction!

I'm embarrassed to hear that it happened in South Omaha. Most people here are caring and respectful.

It is difficult to believe that a child would substain a fractured scull from a fall over an ottoman. Unless she was not being carried properly. I have fallen with children in my arms and never have they received such a serious injury. I suggest a serious investagation is launched. The other children were not hurt, so that leaves me to believe she lost it and this child was the one who received the brunt of the "bad" day.

if this was intentional...what a MONSTER! I have a 3 1/2 month old - I can't even fathom hurting him - when I'm having a bad day, he puts a smile on my face, even if he's fussy.

Why do people volunteer to watch children if they don't have the patience for it? I know when I went roller-skating with my friend's children I fell with one of them and the child didn't have a scratch on him, yet I was all bruised up and bleeding. I think this woman should have tried harder to take the brunt of the fall. I hope that poor child is o.k. SHAME ON YOU MONA WALKER!

This seems to be happening way to often. I don't understand how anyone can abuse and innocent little child.

Most people if they tripped while carrying an infant would do everything possible to take the brunt of the fall and save the infant. Another sickening case of a day care provider abusing a tiny infant. A takes an especially depraved person to abuse a 3 month old!!

How sad for the baby. Fractured Skull is a serious injury. I may not be smart but how does a child get a fracured skull from the adult tripping over a ottoman unless she threw the child up in the air and let it fall back down. That would have to be a hard fall for the child.

This is sick. If she is the one who caused the injuries, she should be thrown in jail. That or let the babies parents get ahold of her in a locked room. As a mother I know what I would do.

FRACTURED SKULL from a fall and the baby was in her arms. To fracture a skull that fall had to be pretty darn severe. That would have to mean a hard blow to the baby's head (just common sense) sorry, but something is wrong here I don't by it.
