A 68-year-old heartland woman has been arrested for drunk driving for the fifth time.

Gisela Stiltner was booked into jail Saturday afternoon.

Stiltner faces charges of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.

Police records indicate Stiltner has four prior convictions for DUI.

Officers were called to an apartment complex after receiving reports of a person down. They say they found Stiltner allegedly passed out behind the wheel of her car.

Will this never end? Oh, sure AFTER she kills someone!

Please put this woman in jail! One less selfish drunk on the streets to worry about killing myself or my family while she's out drinking and driving. good grief lady, grow up! Go by your alcohol WHILE YOU ARE SOBER and then go home and drink yourself silly....but please stay home!!!!!!!!!

responce to j ...we all drive the same streets with these dangerious dui offenders my main concerns are with making sure one doesnt kill my children or me ..im thinking stricter laws should be enforced for drivers who repeatedly drive drunk car taken away and never to have license back 1st offenders aswell make our streets safer....

J, I do see your solution to this problem? I stand by comments. A car is a weapon... intentional or not. People with multiple DUIs are the same as people with multiple attempted murder convictions

I don't understand this state. Someone with a perfect driving record commits their first speeding ticket for only going 5 miles over the limit and gets a high ticket over 100 dollars. And this drunk gets off 5 times. Whats wrong with this picture. I have been driving for 25 years and have a perfect driving record. Why aren't the laws stricter for these dangerous drunk drivers.

Nebraska needs to wise up, and just take the vehicle away, maybe insurance rates & etc would go down for all of us and who knows how many accidents she caused along the way home? or almost hits because alert drivers were watching. Let her take a bus or a cab!

Posted by: Biff Location: Elkmaha on Mar 26, 2008 at 09:31 AM
Maybe too old, she has to WANT to quit in order for AA or rehab to work. Requiring it via the courts doesn't work unless the desire to stop is there. It's too easy to say and do the right things while you're under court order, then walk right back out and drink and drive again. Putting her in jail is the safest option for the rest of us - they do have AA in jail IF she really WANTS it.

Posted by: J on Mar 26, 2008 at 07:31 AM
Merri - think this through. you can take away her license but what is going to stop her from driving if she owns a car? oh, right, nothing. Mary O - you can't keep people in jail for life because they drove drunk 5 times. That would be illogical. Let's spend our time incarcerating more dangerous people like killers and rapists. I think that's more important.

I am so outraged to hear of repeat offenders having any access to a vehicle or alcohol or license, It seems that since all of these items are factors in their offense that all of these rights, privleges, whatever you choose to call them should be taken away 1st offense for a severe length of time, and jail time there after along with loss of these rights..and hopefully these measures happen before there is loss of any life especially that of an innocent victim such as several that our family have known of over the years.. People have the privilege of partaking of alcohol and driving and when they mix the two they should loose both privileges...for their own saftey and well being and that of others around them. I don't understand why it's so hard to clasify this as harmful to oneself and others when a person puts themself in the position of drinking and driving...How many more innocent victims before the punishement fits the crime?

What is wrong with this state (and country) that people with 5 and more DUIs, or even three DUIs, are ever released from jail? So what if they are prohibited from possessing a driver's license? As long as they have access to a car, all that matters to them is that they have access to their next drink. It's absolutely pathetic. The gov't is just as responsible for DUIs & related traffic incidents (wouldn't call them accidents)/fatalities when it knows it has released an offender who clearly has no intention of wanting to recover.

I feel 4 u Kim, My mom was a alchoholic and thankgod she did not drive the last few years of her life, she had her husband to deliver all the drinks. In the end she could not walk but she sure could drink, in the end towards the last couple years of her life she could not eat a regular meal, walk or do anything for herself but bark out the last call for alchohal! She died from hepetitis alcoholic liver and progressive shock syndrom ,as well as heperinal styndrom. In other words she had vericross veins literally on the inside of her body that bleed her to death as well as a liver that could take no more then the body already. She had alot of choices to make when she was alive and drinking was the winner.

Obviously this lady has a drinking problem! Putting her up in jail will not solve that. Once she is released, she’ll drink again…She has to decide that drinking away her problems is not the answer. Alcoholism is real! Maybe she should be required to attend AA meetings.

Greg let's change that. This is not hey on my 6th dui I get a set of steak knives. Each time you drink and drive you could kill someone. You are the most selfish human being and so is this woman. I say not only do we take you and her off the street every time you buy a car we take it from you and have it crushed.

    One word ***DETOX*****

Posted by: Derek Location: Omaha on Mar 25, 2008 at 11:48 AM
Lock her up for life. She has shown she will never learn so lets never let her have the chance for her 6th DUI.

Posted by: J Location: Bennington on Mar 24, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Greg - are you trying to be funny? 5 DUIs and haven't hurt anyone - YET. That only means you and Gisela have been caught those 5 times. How many other times have other drivers had to avoid you? Drive defensively because of you? You're playing Russian Roulette - but not with a gun pointed at your own head - with a car and everyone else on the road. You and Gisela truly ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Posted by: SB Location: North O on Mar 24, 2008 at 08:59 PM
I think that the lady has a serious drinking problem. If she does kill someone she won't get any time. She needs to be sentenced to long term in house treatment center she needs help.

Posted by: Donna Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 08:48 PM
I think our judicial system is far too lenient as I knew a guy with 15 dui's and he was still driving thank goodness he moved to Maryland as I do not have to watch him kill someone or himself. He drove without a license as they all do... because you have to catch them and sometimes the only way you catch them is after they kill someone

Posted by: zip Location: lincoln on Mar 24, 2008 at 08:04 PM
5 times.omg why cant that take this woman off the streets.shes gonna end up killing someone...she needs jail time and lots of it....

Posted by: Lawyer Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 08:02 PM
All the judges are ex-criminal defense attorneys - what do you expect - we need to change the way judges are appointed and retain their jobs - Ben Nelson's fingerprints are all over the judiciary in this state

5th DUI?? Lock her up and throw away the key! Period!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 24, 2008 at 06:20 PM
Only her fifth? The drunk driver that ran me over 11 years ago was on her sixth. She left me lying on the pavement. She got out of her car and walked right by me. The police caught up with her at the bar around the corner. She got 6 years probation.

Posted by: Josh on Mar 24, 2008 at 05:43 PM
There is no excuse for drinking and driving. There are plenty of alternatives to take then driving drunk like cabs and dd's.

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 24, 2008 at 05:32 PM
Why was she not in jail after the fourth time?

Posted by: anon Location: NE on Mar 24, 2008 at 04:32 PM
You can take away the lisence but you can't take the keys...lock her up.

Posted by: Scared Motorist Location: Bellevue on Mar 24, 2008 at 04:13 PM
She needs to be locked up, not for a year either. Let her do some hard time

Posted by: Kim Location: Elkomaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 03:48 PM
I don't understand what it takes either. Probably 25-30 yrs ago my mom got one DUI/DWI after another and she was never put in jail. I was little, but I do know she drove all the time when they took her license away for 15yrs. She did get some jail time in '93 but still, just within the last few yrs, she got jail time again. It's a never ending life for her. And in case you were wondering, no I don't see her. She left when I was 3 yrs old and the last time I saw her was in '95. She was never my "mom" and I didn't want to be a part of her life. It does scare me thinking someday she could hurt someone. But I can't babysit her. I moved on. So don't say the kids are to take care either, that isn't fair.

This article should bring some awareness to the lack of punishment being handed out by our judicial system. Why so leniant on these drunks? If there are loopholes that laywers can use to get a 3rd DUI dropped, then something needs to change!

Posted by: BJ Location: Papillion on Mar 24, 2008 at 02:41 PM
    Hold the judges accountable. immediately

Posted by: jj Location: omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 02:16 PM
WHY IS SHE ON THE LOOSE? PUT HER IN A CENTER FOR CHEMICAL ADICTIONS

Posted by: Greg on Mar 24, 2008 at 02:08 PM
    I have 5 DUI's and I've never hurt anybody.....punishment should fit yhe crime and it's effect......she didn't hurt anybody.

Posted by: james Location: bellevue on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:58 PM
put her away before she kills someone.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: OMAHA on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:56 PM
WHAT HAPPENED TO HER THE FIRST 4 TIMES, OR DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE GETTING HURT OR KILLED BY THESE PEOPLE FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE?

Posted by: Melodie on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:13 PM
It seems to me that they ought to keep good ole Gisela in the pokey for awhile to dry her out!! I'm beginning to wonder how many DUI's it takes for someone in Nebraska to be put in jail. It's obvious that suspending one's license just doesn't work. I pray that next time she doesn't kill someone, let alone herself.

Posted by: me Location: omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:10 PM
DUI and suspended license should be a stiffer consequences then a slap on the wrist no matter the age..

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:09 PM
my daughter got a years probatin and huge fines plus an ultimatum agenda from the judge after being at a party where no one was going to drive 1st time offense, what is up with this picture?? THROW THIS WOMAN IN JAIL!!!!!!

Posted by: Pete Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:05 PM
    4 1 = jail!, I hope!

Posted by: Jeff Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:04 PM
Suspending their licenses don't do any good. Lock 'em up in!!

Posted by: CATHY Location: OMAHA on Mar 24, 2008 at 01:00 PM
It just doesn't matter what age, color, or gender - they just don't learn!!

Posted by: e Location: work on Mar 24, 2008 at 12:52 PM
does someone have to die before people realize "oh maybe we should do something after the first dui!" there should not be a second, third, fourth etc.....its just scary that law enforcement lets it go that far

Posted by: Fred Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 12:51 PM
She needs to spend some serious time in jail before she kills someone which so often happens with these repeat offenders.

Posted by: Delancey Location: La Vista on Mar 24, 2008 at 12:38 PM
I don't know the circumstances...but to be 68 and four prior DUI convictions, this lady must have a serious drinking problem. That is really sad for someone her age.

Posted by: Huh on Mar 24, 2008 at 12:34 PM
    C'mon Grandma..CALL A TAXI !!!

Posted by: Laura Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 12:29 PM
Glad before she passed out she didnt kill anyone on the road. It being the 5th time being caught makes me so sick that the punishment is not so bad for drinking and driving that you can keep on doing it 5 times after the first. Taking a license away dont mean anything to these people.

Posted by: G Location: Syracuse on Mar 24, 2008 at 12:22 PM
How in the world does a person get 5 DUI charges? Apparantly the Douglas county prosecutors are no smarter than Cass county's.

Posted by: Biff Location: Elkmaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Sorry, but I think we need to throw the book at Grandma. Usually, the line is "where are their parents?", but this time, it's "where are her kids"? Someone needs to take the keys away - she's going to kill someone!

Posted by: Scott Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Well, knowing our justice system nothing will happen to her until she kills someone. Then they'll really put the hammer to her and give her probation.

Posted by: Liz Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 11:23 AM
This person needs treatment and needs to not be a further danger to society. Perhaps, jail time is in order?

Posted by: RM Location: Omaha on Mar 24, 2008 at 11:20 AM
Jail time an no more driver license ever.
