The Publishers Clearing House prize patrol came knocking in Omaha Friday morning and they knocked on Jack Genners' door.
Dave Sayer did the knocking with a million dollar check in hand.
"Are you Jack?" he asked Jack.
"Yes I am," Jack said.
Good answer Jack.
Dave handed over the $1 million check to the retired construction worker. That's on top of the bonus of a dozen roses and $5,000 cash Mr. Genners received before finding out he was getting the big check.
Jack was informed earlier that he had won something and that he should make sure he was at home Friday morning. But he wasn't sure how much he had won.
"My wife said, 'how can you remain so calm?' I said, look at it this way, I've either won a thousand or I've won a million."
He won the million.
"I'm retired so this is really going to come in handy," he said. "I think I'm going to travel."
Jack doesn't actually get the $1 million in one lump sum. It will be spread out over 30 years but he did get his first installment Friday.
He says in spite of the windfall, his wife will likely keep working part time at the hospital because she loves her job.
