Nebraska Lawmakers have rejected a bill that would have restricted where people can fire guns.
Senator Carol Hudkins of Malcolm wanted to bar shooting within 200 yards of homes. She said close-range shooting by people with no common sense and courtesy has become a problem in some suburban developments outside city limits.
Senator LeRoy Louden, a rancher, was among those who opposed the bill. He said he often shoots from his front porch at coyotes and other varmints that invade his property.
Debate on another bill from Senator Chris Langemeier of Schuyler was postponed because of opposition from Senator Ernie Chambers. The bill would protect formerly rural shooting ranges that have been swallowed up by urban development.
