A Lincoln man was cited after authorities say he tried to beat an approaching train at a railroad crossing Sunday morning and ended up causing a collision.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Department says 28-year-old Matthew Smith was driving north on 14th Street about 3 a.m. when he came to a railroad crossing near Yankee Hill Road with its arms down for an approaching train.
Smith stopped, but authorities say he then decided to drive around the arms and through the crossing. That's when the train struck the bed of his pickup.
Smith was cited for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and violating a railroad crossing.
