An 89-year-old Omaha woman is facing a reduced charge in connection with the alleged assault of her husband who later died of a heart attack.
Lulu Bach was initially charged with First-Degree Assault for beating her husband, 88-year-old Dr. Stanley Bach, with a fireplace poker. That was in December.
Dr. Bach called rescue personnel and he was taken to the hospital where he died a few days later. Officials say the heart attack was not related to the beating.
The First-Degree Assault charge was dismissed on Wednesday and on Thursday prosecutors filed a Second-Degree Assault charge against Mrs. Bach.
Her preliminary hearing has been delayed as attorneys have awaited more information about Lulu Bach's mental competency.
