Thieves May Be Looking For Guns In Bellevue Garage Break-Ins

The sign at the Overlook Apartments warns trespassers they aren't allowed. Late last night trespassers drove right by it.

Bellevue police detective Harold Hessig says the thieves burglarized at least eight different garages in five different buildings last night. Hessig estimates the loss at nearly $10,000.

Their plan was simple. The thieves rang units in each building until someone buzzed them in. Once inside, the thieves made their way down a hallway where the thieves found a private room of possibilities. It was a room that had doors to garages in each of the buildings.

One of the garages hit was Chris Daniels'.

"At first I thought someone was playing a joke or messing with me. Then, I started looking around. I noticed all my boxes were open and there was something missing out of my car."

Daniels had planned to move in a few days and so his garage was a treasure chest.

"When you have a garage door and a locked door to your garage, you kind of assume your safe but apparently a lot of houses got hit.”

Strangely thieves left behind a remote control plane and a PlayStation. While they stole his ammunition, luckily Daniels' gun was not there. The thieves found several guns in other garages and stole them.

With the apartments so close to Offutt, residents wander if the location was more than just coincidence.

Anyone with information on these thefts should contact Sarpy County Crimestoppers. You can remain anonymous and you may be eligible for a cash reward. Their number is 592-STOP.
