We’ve often heard the phrase that you’re the “apple of my eye”. In the case of an Iowa man, like the apple, his eye had a worm in it.
John Matthews went to a doctor in Cedar Rapids, complaining that the vision in his left eye was being obscured by two dots. It took several specialists – and a number of tests – to discover that a worm had taken up residence.
Doctors shot two rounds of laser blasts into his eye to kill the worm. During the procedure, Matthews says he could actually see the worm trying to dodge the laser. He suspects he picked up the worm either in Mexico or while turkey hunting.
A crew from Animal Planet taped a segment after Matthews called the cable channel and described his ordeal.
