The College of Saint Mary is celebrating 87 years of educating women. The school was founded on September 12th, 1923 as a two year teacher's college and has continued to grow.
Since Mother Mary Leo Gallagher and the Sisters of Mercy opened the doors just three years after women secured the right to vote in the U.S., College of Saint Mary has continued to grow and inspire academic excellence while celebrating the roles of women as scholars and contributors to society, family and church.
The college moved to its current location at 72nd Street and Mercy Road in 1955, and became a four-year fully-accredited college in 1958.
Today, Dr. Maryanne Stevens, RSM, presides as president over the campus and its more than 1,000 students.
CSM will commemorate the anniversary on Sunday, September 12th, with a special Founder’s Day dinner for benefactors and alumnae, along with the unveiling of a new History Wall project in the Hixson-Lied Commons.
