Marie said, "Where are we going to get that extra money. We're either going to have to get it from mom and dad or our sponsors."
Channel Six News has learned that Omaha Parks Officials sent notices to about 300 individuals and organizations that use city athletic fields. The letter states a $5.00 and hour administrative fee will be assessed on all field use permits next year.
For Northside Little League which used 4 city fields 6-days a week that could amount to thousands of dollars.
However Omaha City Parks Director Melinda Pearson told Six On Your Side there will be a sliding scale for organizations based on number of fields and hours needed.
In the case of Northside Little League she estimates that would be about $700. For organizations across Omaha this is the first time they'll have to pay for a usage permit. Pearson said, "We think we can get about $7.00 per child a season and that's not unreasonable."
She says the money will be used for parking lot and building repairs around the diamonds.
But Marie Dale says the city needs to provide more field maintenance which is primarily handled by parents in organizations.
An informational meeting on the new field use permit fee will be held September 14th and Saddlebrook School in Northwest Omaha
