No Permit Leads To Failed Inspection
Jim and Adaphine Robinson of Fremont are in their 70's and relied on a contractor to keep a roof over their heads.
Jim said, "He said he'd do a wonderful job and we'll be well satisfied."
After discovering the roofer didn't take out a permit for the job the elderly couple called in Fremont's Building Inspector Marvin Hansen.
Hansen was far from satisfied. The roof didn't pass city code. Hansen said, "I think water is going to run down the roof between the chimney and the wall of the dormer into the house."
Roofing Contractor Jeremiah Childers returned to the home after a call from Six On Your Side. Childers said he hadn't done work in Fremont for three years and getting a permit slipped his mind.
The homeowners had to pull one instead.
Childers promised to bring the roof up to code by the end of the week.
The roofer told the Robinson's, "Its going to look exactly as they asked and its going to look perfect."
The City building inspector said he'll be watching.
Jim Robinson said, "I'm giving them a chance and if they don't do it right this time I'll take it further."
Omaha like Fremont requires a building permit before a roof is torn off. Usually the contractor will pull one but ultimately its the responsibility of the homeowner
